Ange Postecoglou has been sent a reminder of the talent within the Tottenham youth set-up after the Under-21s’ Premier League 2 play-off win on Monday (6 May).
The young stars needed extra time to advance from the last 16 of the Premier League 2 play-offs, beating Aston Villa 4-3 in a dramatic match at The Lamex Stadium.
Spurs were condemned to a one-goal deficit by half-time as Sil Swinkels fired the Villans ahead, only for two quick-fire goals from Yago Santiago and Will Lankshear to overturn the 1-0 scoreline.
This was not the end of the drama, however, Jamaldeen Jimoh equalised with seven minutes remaining. Rio Kyerematen believed he had scored the winner in the first minute of added time before Jimoh scored once again to send the tie to extra time.
Praised for their “wonderful” football throughout the match [Tottenham Hotspur], heads did not drop as Lankshear bagged his brace in the 100th minute to secure a 4-3 victory.
Considering the senior team’s current form, with four consecutive losses and 13 goals conceded, Postecoglou will be delighted to see the U21s doing so well and progressing in the play-offs.
Although Wayne Burnett’s entire team must be praised, the Australian will have been especially impressed by Lankshear and Santiago, who have been inspiring Spurs to victories all season.
