What is the image that comes to your mind when you hear the word Enzo Ferrari? A self-made, super proud of himself Italian, always dressed up in a suit or a long coat, looking almost like a Mafia. With F1 arriving in Imola for the first Italian race of the season, Lewis Hamilton paid homage to Enzo Ferrari, just 7 months ahead of joining the Scuderia himself
Lewis Hamilton is known for walking into the paddock featuring some of the most unique fashion the F1 paddock has ever seen. Just last week in Miami, Hamilton wore an outfit that had mirror cutouts all over and was a special custom piece by Marc Jacobs. The 7X champ now walked into the Imola paddock, wearing a double-breasted long black coat
While many of us weren’t even born yet to witness Enzo Ferrari live, the Italian was always dressed up for the occasion. We’ll be able to relate to his portrayal in the movies, played by Adam Driver in Ferrari, and Remo Girone in Ford vs Ferrari. The 7X champ, who announced his move to the Scuderia for 2025, seems to have found his inner Enzo Ferrari, and tried to replicate the genius’ look.
Lewis Hamilton will be making the move to Maranello at the end of this year and has arguably already started learning Italian. Yet, he probably wanted to show the Tifosi how his heart lies with the Scuderia and wore an outfit inspired by the Ferrari founder. Lewis Hamilton really seems to be taking the themes and understanding the situation well at various events this year, including the Met Gala.
While at first glance, Lewis Hamilton’s Met Gala outfit looks like a regular long coat, it is the finer details that really make it theme-worthy. The dress code “Garden of Time” was executed brilliantly by Hamilton, as the outfit was inspired by John Ystumllyn, one of the first black gardeners in Wales. He further had the poem “The Gardener” by Alex Wharton stitched inside his coat. This poem is about John Ystumllyn.
As Hamilton explained his outfits to the presenters at the 2024 Met Gala, he said, “It’s Burberry. I did a lot of research, [and] came across this 18th-century gardener that through slavery times came over from Africa to Wales & became the first black gardener in Wales, so through adversity really triumphed. So that’s really where the inspiration has come from. I like that the thorns here are ready to show the pain through that slavery trade time.”
